When our family lived in Toronto we lived very busy, hectic lives. Many times we found ourselves making choices to save time, rather than to save money, because our time had been such a rare commodity in the rat race of life. Therefore, the opportunity to buy groceries online became a very welcomed option and one that we regularly chose to avail ourselves of.
There was a local, start-up company that we regularly purchased groceries from. It's called Grocery Gateway. Grocery Gateway allowed us to purchase groceries online from the convenience of home, or even from the office. By simply entering our user name and password, we were able to choose from numerous grocery items, or even reorder based on past saved grocery lists. There was of course a small delivery fee of about $6.00 but this was a small price to pay for the convenience of ordering groceries online and having them delivered to our second floor condominium, through our front door and directly into the kitchen. We found the produce to be very fresh and obviously hand-picked for every order. Even though we were ordering our groceries online, we were still able to take advantage of weekly specials and sale items, just as one might when shopping from a regular grocery store. As time progressed, we were delighted to be able to order small quantities of wine, liquor and beer, in addition to ordering our groceries online. This was an added bonus, since lugging any larger, heavier purchases from our underground parking up to our home, was a long and struggling journey. The delivery people were equipped with dollies that allowed for the delivery of our groceries and other items with ease. Then we moved to Winnipeg. We were very disappointed to find that ordering our groceries online was no longer an option. Winnipeg is focused on getting the best value for the dollar. Nobody seems interested in saving time over saving a bit of money. My husband and I even toyed with the idea of opening our own business allowing people to order their groceries online. However, we found out that one company had already started up and failed, based on this concept. We are no longer able to save time by ordering groceries online and we've found this to be a sorely missed convenience. We've often hoped that Grocery Gateway would expand and open a franchise in our area, allowing us once again to order our groceries online. Hopefully, in the near future this will become a reality. However, until that time we are left to taking on the task ourselves, taking time to write a list, lugging the kids out to the store, doing the actual shopping and hauling everything home once again. Ordering groceries online is a wonderful convenience that saves time in today's hectic world. It's a great opportunity for busy families and individuals alike!
